I’m planning a short trip to Lisbon and only have two days to explore the city.
As someone who hasn’t been there before, I’m looking for recommendations on the best attractions, local spots, and must-do activities to make the most of my time.
Any tips on planning my itinerary or suggestions on where to eat and stay would also be appreciated!
Lisbon is a city rich in history, culture, and charm, and even with just 2 days, you can experience some of its best highlights. Here’s a suggested itinerary:
Day 1: Explore the Historic Heart of Lisbon
Morning: Start your day in the Alfama district, the oldest part of the city. Wander through its narrow streets, visit the Sé Cathedral, and make your way up to the Castelo de São Jorge for stunning views of the city.
Lunch: Head to a traditional tasca in Alfama or Baixa for some Portuguese cuisine. Don’t miss trying bacalhau (salted cod) or pastéis de nata (custard tarts).
Afternoon: Explore Baixa and Chiado, the more modern areas. Visit the Elevador de Santa Justa for another great view, and stroll through the lively streets, stopping by Praça do Comércio.
Evening: End your day in Bairro Alto. This neighborhood comes alive at night, and it’s a great place to experience Lisbon’s nightlife with its many bars and fado music venues.
Day 2: Discover Belém and Modern Lisbon
Morning: Spend the morning in Belém, home to some of Lisbon’s most iconic landmarks. Visit the Jerónimos Monastery, the Belém Tower, and the Monument to the Discoveries. Don’t forget to try the original Pastéis de Belém.
Afternoon: Head back to the city center and explore the Parque das Nações, the site of Expo 98. Here, you can visit the Oceanário de Lisboa, one of the best aquariums in Europe, and take a cable car ride along the waterfront.
Evening: If you have time before your departure, enjoy a relaxing walk along the Tagus River or take in the sunset from one of Lisbon’s many miradouros (viewpoints).
